Couple More Christmas Eve Photos

Oh cool, Teresa was kind enough to bring down a few photos that she shot on Christmas Eve as well so now I have a good photo of Richard who finally got to meet Erin and one of his nieces and nephew. Richard got some Transformers for Christmas (now there's a shocker ... not sure what we'll do if they ever quit making those toys).

Tickles me how intrigued Landon is by cell phones and other electronics. Hmmm, who does that remind me of?

Christmas Eve 2008

Well, we got to have all the kids over except for Justin, Jessica & Kyleigh and we had a very wonderful dinner thanks to my lovely bride / girlfriend, Teresa!

Christmas was a little more "lean" this year than others but it was so special to have family over but I wish we had more time to spend together as a family. At least I beat Travis in Wii Tennis (guess there will be a rematch). :-)

Teresa and I had fun playing on the Wii (our gift to each other) on Christmas Day. I even let her win a few times (oops, I forgot she reads this blog as well). Nice knowing all of you .....

Anyway, here is my favorite photo from Christmas Eve .... Love to ALL of my fammily this Christmas holiday ... Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Pre-Christmas Fun w/Larry

Well, Larry H & I went out and did a little target practicing a few days before Christmas and had a wonderful time. I forgot to take my camera with us so I could get a few shots of us shooting and having fun!

It was funny to turn around from my sessions and see several people watching me and a couple of them gave me thumbs up for my accuracy. They were extremely curious about my rifle and it was funny watching Larry try to explain what it is. :-)

Anyway, here is the last target I shot to see if I could be fairly accurate and reasonably quick at the same time. I was very happy with the results.

Two More Photos of Leah (one of me) ..

Well sometimes you just have to take the good with the bad so I've included two pictures of Leah with one of them including me. :-)

Not getting to see much of her or Travis and his family lately due to this major task force I've been assigned to at work which meets ALL day, EVERY day at one of our technical centers.

Had a wonderful time going out with Teresa for dinner last night at O'Charley's in Eastgate (for those of you who are familiar with that area), went to Best Buy for a little Christmas shopping and then went over to Travis and Sarah's house to visit every one. Had a great time; I just wish all of us were together ... especially at this time of year. I sure appreciate all the phone calls from my boys and family.

Teresa's neices and winter prom 2008

When I visited Knoxville recently, Bethany, age 16 (in the black dress) and Shali age 15 (in the camo-looking dress) were dressing up for winter prom. They sure are growing up beautifully!

As you can As you can tell, I'm a proud aunt! These are the girls who call me TeeTa all the time. Their dad, when he was a toddler, couldn't say Teresa. So the tradition has carried over to their generation and now I'm also "Mamaw TeeTa."

Another Grand-Daughter Enters the Gobble Clan

Well, yesterday (4 Dec 2008) at 2:49pm Leah Mackenzie Gobble was born in Christ Hospital to Travis & Sarah. Leah weighed 6 lbs, 3 ozs and was 19.5 inches long! She is such a cutie, but then, ALL of my grand children are!! No bias here. Nope.

Here are a few photos with more to follow. Just finished talking to Travis, and Sarah will be released from the hospital and coming home this evening around 7:30pm so Teresa and I will go over and see everyone at their house after attending a High Priest Social for the Milford Ward (where I'm assigned as High Councilor) which is very close to their house.

How to Make Kyleigh React ...

Here is a wonderful video that we shot inside of the Dairy Queen (and got more than a few strange looks but who cares?).

Jessica would "attack" Kyleigh and blow bubbles on her neck and make her laugh and clutch at her Dad.

Kyleigh with one set of her Grandparents!

Of course, it is an actually LEGAL REQUIREMENT to include pictures of grandchildren with their grandparents (look it up). ;-)

So here are a couple of shots of Kyleigh with Mamaw Teeta (tea-ta, a nickname given to Teresa by her younger brother when he couldn't say Teresa)

And a great shot of Kyleigh with her Papaw (I don't have to include Russ because no one else wants that title which is fine by me since I have always cherished it) ...

Halloween 2008

Here are a few pictures of Kyleigh that were taken down in Norton, VA at Mamaw Fannie's house around Halloween (actually at the local Dairy Queen ... where else would you find Jessica and Teresa?).

Jessica had made Kyleigh a black cat costume that was really cute along with a long, black tail (it was funny how many people commented on it). We had so much fun being together again. :-)

PopCorn Popping

Here's a short video of Landon opening some of our gifts. I love what Teresa picked out for him (something she gave to her brother David when he was little). Got a nice reaction.

How to Go About Eating a Cake

So, do you want to know how to really EXPERIENCE eating a birthday cake? What follows is a step by step procedure that you could follow. The best part was watching Travis' face (who is a neat freak) during this whole experience. It was great (just wish I had some pictures of his face).

Step 1: It Should be a Hands On Experience

Step 2: Apply Liberally to One's Face

Step 3: Oh Wow, I'm On A Sugar High Now!!

WOW ... Landon's a Year Old!

Well, Saturday, Oct 25th was Landon's first birthday; it's hard to believe it's been a year already. We had a nice little party for him, and it was great to see him happy and moving around so well after his double hernia surgery on Thursday (Travis' birthday ... that's one Travis won't soon forget).

Travis Cleans Up His Act?

Travis shaved off his beard and Landon was a little leery at first but as you can see, they had fun at the party (not sure which one had the most fun)....

Here's Landon Practicing Some of Travis' Black Belt Moves .....

Hmmm, now WHO'S Birthday was it ... REALLY???

Now, for a new meaning to the phrase, "The Laying On of Hands"

An Early Tryout?

Well, here is a short video of Kyleigh in her very 1st audition for the Rockettes. OK, maybe I'm rushing it a little but that's what grand-parents are for (isn't it)?

Jessica & Kyleigh Visit to the Queen City

Well, not TOO long ago Jessica and little Kyleigh got to come up to Cincinnati to visit Mamaw and Papaw along with several other "kin". It was really wonderful to have them spend a week with us and the time went by so incredibly fast (hmmm, how come WORK never goes that fast? Riddle me that Batman!). :-)

Kyleigh is still the stage of her life where she likes to eat and sleep a lot (I forget what the other thing is) and I captured her and her mama in a couple of nice shots.

Does Life Get Much Better Than This?

HEY! I'm the QUEEN in this house so DON'T be MESSIN' with MY NAP!

OH Man, I can't believe my Mom is making me watch the Tennessee Football Game!

We sure love and miss them but will see them soon enough. And we REALLY missed Justin too!

Landon Takes An Assisted Walk!

Teresa and I shot a couple of videos of Landon walking behind his little "pushing toy" which allows him to maintain his balance while taking his first steps toward walking on his own.

He is so cute and is definitely likes to ham it up in front of a camera.

A Spinning Top ... or something like that

Here is a great video that Teresa shot of Jeremy being spun around by his uncle and the wonderful result that most of us probably remember from our own childhood.

Family ReUnion in Virginia

Here are a few quick memories from our mini family reunion in Virginia the weekend of July 19th/20th.

I wish my boys and Courtney could have been there with their families as well. We sure missed them a lot!!

It was great to go to Church together and sit around the campfire and roast marshmellows but I think what I'll remember most is playing WII, winning at bowling, and then getting KO'd by Teresa in the 3rd round!! At least Jerry got KO'd in the 2nd round by Karen. :-)

Quick Photo of Landon in Pool

Here is one still photo of Landon having a great time with Grand-Pa in the pool.

Be sure and check out the video below.

Landon Loves Paddling in the Pool ...

When Teresa and I first saw Landon get into Travis & Sarah's pool, he was definitely a little tenative getting into the water but NOT anymore! So we thought it would fun to shoot some video of him paddling away.

Just don't be scared by the big white whale in the pool with him. :-D

Mid-Ohio Race Track

On July 3rd, Teresa and I traveled to Lexington, Ohio (north of Columbus) to take an Acura high performance driving class which consisted of basically 5 parts. 1st - We had some in-class instruction on basic principles and physics of a car when applied to a "race" car.

2nd - Skid car exercise, 3rd - Short salom course, and then practicing late braking points & hitting the apex of a turn to minimize your time through the turn, 4th - a larger and much more twisty course using both the Acura TSX (6 speed, race tires & exhaust, special brakes and a 5PT harness) and the Honda S2000, a contest to see how could go the faster through the course and receive a free certificate to the Advanced High Performance Class,

and then 5th(FINALLY) an opportunity to actually go out on the Mid-Ohio race track and really run the car and put into practice all that we had learned throughout the day.

The day started out raining steady and then got worse and worse throughout the day. We didn't mind too much as this gave us additional "training" in handling a car at higher speeds / sharper maneuvers and was great except for when we actually got on the racetrack at the end of the day (more later about this).

I was THE first person to go in the skid car with Teresa being the second (she was in the back seat when I was driving and vice versa). Well, I have to be honest ... she was definitely smoother and better in the skid car than I was. I did two 360 turns (one where I actually meant to; wanted to see what it was like and yes, it was fun!!). Wasn't planning the second however and that aggravated me. The car was fitted with "outriggers" which were controlled from inside the car by the instructer and raised the car on different corners of the car which unbalances it and makes life interesting to say the least.

After lunch, catered in as part of the class, we got to the 2nd exercise which was MUCH more fun. I enjoyed running the tight salom in the rain and getting progressively faster but what I really liked was when they straightened out the course and then we practiced quick, high speed runs in 2nd gear, hitting our brake points correctly along with trying to maximize our speed through the turn by hitting the turn in point precisely along with the curve apex. This is an exercise to brake as late as possible, and go through a turn/corner in a "straight line" to shorten the time / distance. Instructors provided us individual feedback after each run and I was surprised at how much the exercise helped both Teresa and I.

Next we went on the bigger course that you saw above, first in the Acura's and then the S2000's. What a difference! Front wheel drive and lower HP versus rear wheel drive and more HP. I had the S2000 doing a nice "dance" through the course as did several of the guys. With a very slick course, RWD, very tight turns, and decent HP it was difficult to keep the car completely in control. Especially when you're pushing it. The contest was fun as well and I finished about 5th out of 30 people plus I beat Teresa by a full 3 seconds (which was all that mattered to me)!! :-) It was fun to hear her SIGH LOUDLY when they gave her my time (I think the instructors were rooting for her).

It stopped raining (for the most part) when we finally got the Mid-Ohio race track to ourselves (obviously they didn't want rookies putting the more advanced students / drivers at risk). LOL Teresa and I were in the same group (they broke us into 3 separate groups) and I followed her except for when it was my turn to follow directly behind the instructor. MAN OH MAN, was that ever fun!! Even with the treacherous track (their words) I was able to stay right on his rear bumper (see the website for what the track looks like). It has a lots of turns and a couple of decent straight aways and it had been dry, we would really have had a wonderful time and really pushed the cars even harder (you are liable for up to $3,000 in damage if you wreck). Teresa's car had a lot of issues and was extremely difficult to drive she said (personally I believe her because I usually don't drive up on her that much). The instructors showed us the correct "lines" to run on the course but on each lap, it was simply amazing how much the ride would change (i.e., cars would be fine one lap and the next, you would be fighting it pretty hard to keep it on the track).

Anyway, it was a really great time and we're glad we went. Not sure if we take the next level or not (I'd rather upgrade my suspension on my "race" car). HA HA.

They offer courses for teenagers to help them with their defensive driving skills and I'm sure it helps a lot. Here are a couple of pictures from the hotel we stayed at on Wed evening and where we had dinner.

And IF you love M&M's, you definitely have to go to this place!!

Teresa's trip to Switzerland and Europe

I had a FABULOUS trip to Switzerland and Italy with my niece, Bethany. All of the art and architectural history I studied extensively in college came to life! I'm providing a link (and password) to my albums in Photobucket. My Photobucket page is named "Curvy Road" (like the license plate on my car). The password is ACIS2008. http://s307.photobucket.com/albums/nn300/CurvyRoad/

Red Robin

OK, we have a nice set of "transition" photos here while eating at the Red Robin resturant near Travis' house. Thanks to Teresa for taking the photos shown here.

We have "perky", followed by relaxed, which was soon followed by totally GONE!!!

Nice Video of Kyleigh, after she entered this world

This was such a special occasion to be part of this wonderous birth of our first grand-daughter and we're so thankful to our Heavenly Father that she and her mother were fine!

Enjoy ......

An Video Experiment

This is the 1st video of Landon crawling that Teresa and I shot. It's pretty funny & cute. Let's hope it works. This was shot around 7 June 2008.
