Usually Russ does most of the postings on the blog, but he asked that I give you a moving update. I tried to post interior photos of the house a few weeks ago and the blog wouldn't let me "publish," so I deleted them. So later we will post some before and after pictures because we have been changing paint colors a bit, etc.
Because I couldn’t post my last blog, I wasn’t able to give you pictures of the “pig party” that mom threw for us when we closed on the house. Every time Russ looked at houses to buy, he always commented that he didn’t want to live near pig farmers (meaning he was afraid to live out in the country because trashy houses and yards were not prohibited). So mom made a welcome sign held up by two pigs. She then prepared dinner with pork BBQ, pork rinds, boiled corn, and a pig cake (so clever). My brother and his family who live just down the street had a picture made of them making pig faces so that they could say there were the “pig family” neighbors! It was a great party.
This move sure has been an adventure!! (a good adventure). We have been blessed with everything going quite smoothly. Even the weather was wonderful for the two days we loaded the truck and the day of unloading. It was not as hot as it had been prior to the move nor as hot as it was following the move. We received no rain even though in TN there was a 50% chance (and we could see the black clouds in the distance several times). We did our own packing, and I'm embarrassed to say that we packed 352 boxes. Whew! The moving company (Gouffon, out of Knoxville) was pretty good. They took good care of our things, plus they were fun and friendly. We even had the "head" mover come back with his wife to visit us (yes, he had to pick up a pad that he left, but they want to stay in touch with Uncle Russ and Aunt Teresa).
Boxes were stacked to the high heavens. No one informed me that the 5-day grace period for unpacking boxes to check for damage ONLY pertained to the boxes they packed (which was only a small handful)!!!! So, I killed myself trying to open 80 boxes a day to check for damage!!!! We probably now have about half unpacked, but not necessarily put away. I took a break yesterday and went shopping all day with my mom!!! She and my stepdad, Geno, have been working hard at their house preparing for lots of company this summer, but they also came over here a lot and helped us with painting, installing W/D, etc. They've been a blessing. So Geno and Russ agreed that mom and I needed a break.
We are really loving our new home and Morristown in general. Everyone is so friendly and we now know the names of people at various restaurants, etc., and at Lowe's (we are there every day!!!). We've met three of our neighbors and they are all wonderful. On neighbor got on his tracker mower and pulled a dolly over here for us to use to move Russ' speakers into place. Everyone is very generous. We've also been to church once (and plan to go this weekend); it is small but very friendly. I'm sure they'll be putting us to work.
Hopefully these photos will give you a little trip through our past few weeks:
Welcome Home!
